Dorset textile artist Carol Cruickshank at the inaugural Dorset County Summer Show.
Neil and I set up early at the show which was held in Dorchester Market. It was a pretty cold and windy day with some exhibitors having problems keeping their stock safe. A slow but steady flow of visitors to the show seemed to enjoy the arts and crafts area which fortunately was partially under cover. As it was the inaugural event, many didn’t hear about it and so numbers of visitors were well down compared with the massive Autumn Show which was cancelled due to Covid for the second year in a row.

I have been taking regular stocks of cards, coasters and tiles over to the lovely Portland Museum. They keep running out …
More Family Time for Dorset textile artist Carol Cruickshank
It’s been great to see more of our family. We looked after our 2 granddaughters both on Portland and at their home in Tooting. My studio turns into their craft room and there was time and weather for playing on the beach and in the sea. And, who knew it, my eldest granddaughter loves to sew …. so proud. Here she is with her own design concept of the Cruickshank family flower with great Grandma Margaret at the centre. We also went to Sale in Greater Manchester to see my Mum and brother, sister, niece and new grandnephew. I did a name picture for him.

Our time here is coming to an end on September 1st. It’s been great for sales , with 3 of my originals and 1 of Neil’s sold directly from the Hayloft and 1 indirectly as well as some framed prints.
What’s next for Dorset textile artist Carol Cruickshank
Halfway through one commission and with another to do. A family quilt to organise and Christmas presents to make (yes, I have to plan early). Trips to Cardiff to catch up with old friends, a new Christian venture to be involved in and a desperate desire to see my other 2 children and family in Copenhagen and Perth. Neil and I will be busy!
