Candles on the Hill, Abbotsbury
We have enjoyed many lovely walks around this pretty village, and we have taken loads of photos. One favourite is up above the village on the Ridgeway with the most amazing far-reaching views of Chesil, Portland, the Fleet, Weymouth and Purbeck. We can also see the gigantic cruise ships that are currently resting in Weymouth Harbour.
One freezing cold day in December, I persuaded Neil to hang around up there (with me) to take photos of St Catherine’s Chapel which towers over Abbotsbury so we could see the sun setting.
Drawing on memories of the Candles on the Hill which we saw a couple of years ago I hand sewed a picture depicting the event. This is a newly restored annual celebration in November of the Saint Day of St Catherine of Alexandria.
I put the picture on Instagram and it was sold within hours – yippee!
With all galleries closed these last few months, I have had to develop a more on-line presence.
My work is also promoted on Facebook’s “Not on Amazon” and “Dorchester Virtual Market”.
Neil and I have been working on an Etsy shop for me and we have entered just a few products for sale – see:
Winter in Abbotsbury Village
A January walk in Abbotsbury up to St Catherine’s Chapel inspired my latest picture. This village is so beautiful with honey-coloured stone and attractive houses. With the grand houses and their gardens, plus the church and pond with the gorgeous-shaped trees still retaining some of their Autumn colour, this was a delightful but time-consuming project.
I haven’t decided yet but it’s going to involve snow …
