Art in Lockdown Continues for Dorset Textile Artist Carol Cruickshank
Anvil Point Lighthouse Commission completed by Dorset Textile Artist Carol Cruickshank
Completed in time for a surprise for the client’s birthday. Neil and I drove to Swanage where the family have a holiday home to drop it off. They were really delighted with it.

Otterton Mill Commission for Dorset Textile Artist Carol Cruickshank
When we dropped off the Budleigh Salterton picture to Otterton Mill, the owner (also called Carol) asked me to do a textile picture of the mill. I spent a long time there & then sketching and taking photos as I decided how to approach the subject. There followed intense sessions of sewing as I rushed to fit this in before a short trip to Cornwall – which was planned to compose another commission in time for early October. Otterton Mill was finished, with the addition of quite a few figures and Carol (the owner) was really pleased with it.

Trip to Cornwall for Dorset Textile Artist Carol Cruickshank
We chose a fantastic week in September and I was able to swim and sketch, but not at the same time! I decided on a composition for the new commission, which I finished yesterday. No picture as yet until the client sees it, but I had to do a lot more figures, not easy when the subjects are so small.

Sales over the summer for Dorset Textile Artist Carol Cruickshank
August was a good month for sales with hand sewn originals. “Corfe Castle under the Ash Tree” and “Springtime St Catherine’s Chapel” both sold in the Abbotsbury Old Chapel Gallery and also “Free Range Chickens” sold from Dorset Burger Company. I took the opportunity to do a swop round of pictures at the restaurant.
